Most Therapists Are Useless

Why therapy is the modern day snake oil.

“I will solve all your problems when you give me money.”

This phrase is the therapist’s motto.

But you tell me.

What are you getting out of therapy?

Here is my view.

The purpose of seeking therapy is to fix a problem you have. So, a therapist is supposed to use their knowledge of psychology to identify your problem and then guide you through a solution.

A therapist is a consultant like a Life Coach or a Medium but with an emphasis on scientific “psychology” instead of personal “success” or spiritual “powers”. So, when psychology is based on science, therapy — by the transitive property — is supposed to provide reproducible solutions to people’s problems.

But in practice, it’s not that.

Modern therapy is a scam.

Let me explain.

Suppose that you cannot cross a bridge with your car. Every time you attempt to drive to the other side, your car gets stuck.

What are you going to do?

First, you need to figure out why your car is getting stuck. So, you pay a consultant to tell you what is going on.
